I am just not summer lover, but I have to say that July has been sooo good to me. I have found some really great products and have been struck with inspiration from every direction, whether it be from music to the August Marie Claire. Here are a few things that kept me going this July and I'm sure I will still be loving through August!
1. "Feels" by Calvin Harris
I will listen to a song until I learn all the words and get sick of it but I cannot get enough of this one.
Katy Perry maybe off her rocker but she’s so fun and sassy in this little number that I'm kind of into it. The reggae-pop vibes I get from this song make it appropriate for any mood and above all, I love a good bar “I’m the best you ever had you just be comparing me to me” *Fire emoji x10*.
2. Marie Claire’s Sustainability Issue
Sustainability is something that has always been super important to me. I don’t know if it was because I was born and raised in a liberal, eco-conscious community but sustainability in fashion is something I am obsessed with and I don't feel as though a lot of people are aware of!
I am sure there have been other magazines that have covered the issue, but Marie Claire dedicated their entire August issue to the topic and it only increased my obsession with them. For someone that hopes to work at Marie Claire one day, it’s huge for me that not only are they recognizing the issue but they are dedicated to spreading awareness to their readers. Real recognize real Ann Fulenwider, I SEE YOU!
3. The OC
My parents were obsessed with the OC back in 2003 (they were young parents lol) but I was preoccupied with the drama that is Spongebob Squarepants and the Cheetah Girls to join in. Recently, I’ve been obsessed with superhero genres since I started watching Gotham and I have been infatuated with James Gordon who it turns out to be THE STAR OF THE OC. I'm sure you can imagine my excitement, so I spent my entire Independe day, independetly bingewatching the first two seasons. To say I giggle like school girl every time Ben McKenzie shows up the screen would be an understatement. If you’re looking for a new shows or a new celebrity crush I highly recommend The OC and Gotham, you won't be disappointed.
4. Frozen Almond Joys
I love a summertime treat, but I have a serious lack of self control. As much as I would love to buy a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Half-Baked ice cream, it would be gone within the hour I made the purchase. So I’ve been throwing candy bars in my freezer and eating them after dinner as an aternative. They satisfy my sweet tooth AND their good portion sizes. It’s still triple your amount of recommended sugar intake for the day, but ya know… baby steps.
5. L’Oreal’s Lash Paradise
Usually I am a full coverage queen (shout out Jeffree Star) and it doesn’t stop for summer time. But I have limited my winged eyeliner and bold lips for occasions. On the hunt for a new mascara a came across simillar packing as my long time favorite mascara Too Faced’s “Better Than Sex”. I’ve been using L’Oreal’s “Lash Paradise” since June and I am still obsessed. It gives me all of the volume I want without sacrificing the length. I am have super watery eyes throughout the day and when I wear “Better Than Sex” the product would get in my eyes and burn a ton and I never have that problem with this formula!
6. The “French Girl” Look
I love a good contour anytime of the year but lately I have dropping the bronzer out of my makeup routine and sticking to blush. I already have really tan skin (I’m literally half black) but I read this article about how french girls never add shadow to their face, only light. So between my romantic lashes and my flushed cheeks I have been serving french girl elegance in the dreary PNW.
7. Gal Gadot
Speaking of superheroes, I saw Wonder Woman twice in theatres and would go a third. I have never geeked out like this in my life but my obsession with wonder women and the israeli goddess that portrays her is off the charts. I saw Gal Gadot on the cover of June’s Marie Claire and couldn’t put the article down.
I love a women that takes society by storm, to think that women like Gal Gadot who overcome adversity and are strong enough to take on a role like Wonder Woman are the kind of woman that my nieces are going to look up, to gives me hope for the future. Proceed with caution, when I left the theatre I had to resist the urge to sprint out of their and deflect bullets with my wrist shields.
Looking forward for what I find in August and even more excited that I'll be closer to fall, TY Jesus.
