Coachella Commentary: Festival Fashion Faves and the Influencers that did it best

Aah Coachella, what many believe to be the “most annoying week on Instagram” is a bohemian chic dream for everyone else that can’t afford to go. I would never categorize myself as a festival lover, but a star studded, fashion movement like Coachella would drag even this Washingtonian home-body to the middle of the desert.

After days of "research," of scrolling on Instagram from my couch, here are a few trendy conclusions I’ve come to;

Western chic has been the style of choice since Alexander McQueen shook the world with it for they fall 2018 collection a couple months ago. Also, Coachella’s long history of cowboy-desert-chic has kept the cowboy boots and suede thigh-high boots relevant even before they came back into style but this year was a major Clint Eastwood moment.

Dolce Vita and Gianvito Rossi basically took over this festival with their pointed ankle and mid calf boots. Some of my favorite fashion influencers like Olivia Culpo and Negin Mersali were repping all of the Revolve western footwear. Moving on, Two piece dresses and jumpsuits have been the move for the last year. Each celebrity and fashion influencer had at least one day dedicated to their two-piece ensemble, which of course has influenced me to commit my spring to finding the perfect summer moment.

There was also an undeniable appreciation for stripes this year. Not that I'm saying stripes have ever been out of style, but I haven't seen this print so regularly since 1995 and but they are back like they never left. Women with short legs of the world unite because these vertical lines are giving us miles.

Vintage Band Tees and brand tees were seen everywhere. My Instagram feed was full of Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses and Harley tees and I frankly cannot get enough.

T-shirt dresses, cropped or off the shoulder, these tee’s were seen everywhere, which I personally think calls for a Goodwill trip in the near future.

As the self proclaimed Queen of Basics (clothes, not people lol) Shay Mitchell really did it for me this year. To some people, a crop top and high-waisted shorts doesn't look like much but being understated does not imply under performance. Ms. Mitchell served me 70s, 80s and boho chic realness all weekend long and you know I'm here for all of the above.

Accessories are basically bread and butter of Festival Fashion. Sure, you can throw a Maxi Dress and some designer suede boots on anyone but you aren’t a Coachella Queen unless you’re dripping in all the rings, hats and chunky necklaces you can fit on your body.

Chunky bohemian goddess necklaces continue to be the movement of Coachella as well as the western style floppy hats. But I'm feeling like I'm seeing a lot less fringe covered satchels and more designer cross-body and belt bags. Which is far more practical.

If I end on anything it has to be the legendary Vanessa Hudgens and how she has been killing it at Coachella since she was a proud member of Zanessa. She may have kept it pretty low key this year, but what lacked in “wow” factor she served in accessories. So I'm feeling very satisfied.
